PostNL has added six electric trucks to its long-haul fleet, increasing the total from one to seven. The new vehicles operate from Nieuwegein, Waddinxveen, Zwolle, Zaltbommel and Amsterdam on routes in the Netherlands and to Belgium.

With a full trailer, the trucks have a range of about 500 kilometres according to PostNL. Each truck is used twice a day and is expected to travel around 150,000 kilometres a year. Electric driving is moving from mainly urban distribution to longer links between logistics hubs.

The scale is still limited. With all six new trucks in operation, about 2.5% of kilometres in PostNL’s long-haul fleet will be electric. The company expects roughly half of this fleet to be electric by 2031.

For shippers, the expansion is a practical signal that battery-electric transport is becoming viable for full trailers and longer network routes. Feasibility still depends on route distance, charging schedules, grid capacity and vehicle availability throughout the day and night.
